Executive Director – Nasos Ktorides

Nasos Ktorides, a visionary and a steadfast believer in the mantra “if you can dream it, then you can achieve it,” has demonstrated this through his remarkable career. His journey is marked by a willingness to explore uncharted paths and a commitment to innovation, especially evident in his ventures in the energy and banking sectors.

His establishment of the Commercial Bank of Greece in Cyprus and his seven-year tenure as Executive Vice-Chairman set a strong foundation in banking. Since 2000, Ktorides shifted his focus to energy investments in Southeast Europe, overseeing the development of five power plants with a combined capacity of 1422 MW, thus making a significant contribution to the Pan-European electric network.

One of Ktorides’ most ambitious and significant projects has been his involvement with the EuroAsia Interconnector, a project he envisioned and brought to life as the CEO of the project. Ktorides’ visionary leadership has been the driving force behind its goals, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation for a sustainable energy future. This project, under his guidance, sought to connect nations through a shared commitment to clean and efficient energy. Over the past decade, this vision involved a flurry of activity, including obtaining necessary permissions and securing the largest European grant awarded to Cyprus. These efforts were crucial in bringing the project to its implementation phase under IPTO Greece in October 2023, a milestone that marked the culmination of over ten years of dedicated and hard work.

Nasos Ktorides strongly believes in reciprocating the gift of life with love and compassion towards fellow human beings. This belief led him to establish the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation in 2008, formalizing his long-standing commitment to altruism through this not-for-profit, philanthropic fund. The Foundation’s work focuses on several key areas: it provides scholarships for studies in leading European and American universities, supporting the educational aspirations of numerous students. Additionally, the Foundation is renowned as the main organizer of the charitable Quantum Nicosia Marathon, an event that combines sportsmanship with philanthropy. He has also made significant contributions to the arts, particularly in securing and repatriating historically important documents and other works, preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

Recognised for his business acumen and humanitarian efforts, Ktorides was appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Commonwealth of Dominica in Cyprus in 2009. He was also awarded the “Dominica Medal of Honour” and received a diplomatic passport from the country.

Four international personalities, the President of the Republic of Serbia, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafkos Clerides and the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos II of Athens, called upon UNICEF to use the good offices of Nasos Ktorides. On February 8, 2012, UNICEF declared Nasos Ktorides as National Goodwill Ambassador.

Apart from his professional pursuits, Nasos Ktorides is an avid marathon runner and adventure enthusiast. He has participated in marathons across the globe, including those in Athens, Boston, the North Pole, and Antarctica. His passion for skydiving and paragliding further exemplifies his adventurous spirit.
