Milestones and Achievements

The EuroAsia Interconnector project has achieved several significant milestones and regulatory approvals to date. Here is a list of some of the major milestones and achievements:

1. Inception and Vision

The EuroAsia Interconnector project was initially envisioned by Mr. Nasos Ktorides, the founding Chairman and CEO of the EuroAsia Interconnector electricity cable, Quantum Corporation, Quantum Energy, Quantum Cable, and EuroAfrica Interconnector. Mr. Ktorides is a firm believer in the motto “if you can dream it then you can achieve it” and has been a driving force behind the project’s development and success. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in advancing the EuroAsia Interconnector, as well as other significant energy initiatives.

2. Regulatory Approvals:
The project has received regulatory approvals from the relevant authorities in Cyprus, Greece, and Israel, including the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies.

3. Partnerships:
The EuroAsia Interconnector Limited has established partnerships with several leading companies in the energy sector, including Siemens and Nexans, to develop and implement the project.

4. PCI Label:
The EuroAsia Interconnector is a leading European Project of Common Interest (PCI) labelled as an EU “electricity highway” connecting the national electricity grids of Cyprus, Greece, and Europe through renewable energy sources.

5. EU Funding:
The project has received a €657 million grant from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and an additional €100 million grant from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Fund.

6. World Record:
The EuroAsia Interconnector is the longest 1,208km and deepest up to 3,000m HVDC interconnector in the world.

7. Securing its future:
The recent transfer of the project to ADMIE Greece is expected to accelerate its implementation, ensures the technical and financial adequacy of the project and lays the foundations for its timely completion.
